Quote by Antonie Lavoisier " I consider nature a vast chemical laboratory in which all kinds of composition and decomposition are formed". This is very relevant for my journey through academics so far. During my B.E., I studied various subjects but this quote inspired me to get to know about how chemical reaction occur and can I control the reactions? If I can, then how? My strong inclination in chemical engineering starts when I had seen various colour composition and various smells of perfume. I decided to pursue chemical engineering further. Also, I have studied physics and maths. In physics my favourite area was fluid mechanics, heat transfer and was much impressed by application of Bernoulli equation. I believe that my knowledge of this domain is quite limited. I want to pursue MTech so that I get intensive knowledge in this domain. I want to join this programme due to my strong passion and interest in this domain. IIT Kanpur offers great environment for learning along with world class research infrastructure.
IIT Kanpur provides best ecosystem for research and learning. Professors in IIT Kanpur are working on numerous research projects which further have applications for real world problems and their solutions. Chemical Engineering in IIT Kanpur is a leading global centre for research. It is engaged with industry and other world leading institutions to carry out pioneering research that benefits the society and changes the world around us. I want to be part of this great research ecosystem.
As my graduation background (BE) is in Biochemical Engineering and also Food Technology, I am very interested in catalyst and reaction engineering, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. I am interested in modeling advance processes and equipment for CFD analysis, thermodynamical conversion of biomass, plastics and mixed solid waste using fast pyrolysis for the production of biofuels.
I have seen that faculties in chemical department of IIT Kanpur are currently working in this field. I can gain the knowledge and apply to solve real world problems and to improve our society and world around us. I want to know the behaviour of various particle that help to find out the root of every change of chemical reaction. I am sure that the MTech programme in chemical department of IIT Kanpur will help me to fulfil my career objective.
I always had a fascination for Electronics and its related areas since childhood and it is that interest and curiosity only that forced me to opt for Electronics and communication as my undergraduate course. The courses relating to the basics about semiconductor, transistors and diode in 11th and 12th standard in school made inclined towards electronics. My undergraduate program also has put a big impact upon me for this field. During my college studies, I always had an enthusiasm to observe the practical applications of the subjects. Study of subjects in my college course curriculum motivated me to let this basic knowledge grow so that I use it to contribute in resolving present technical issues and innovate something new in the electrical world.
After completing my graduation, I joined teaching profession where I taught science and mathematics. Due to some personal reasons, I was unable to pursue master’s program at an early stage in life but I maintained the interest and determination to pursue postgraduate degree. I kept enhancing my knowledge and have got enough confidence to pursue my higher studies so that it bridges the gap between my passion and career. Driven by my life circumstances and reasons relating exclusively to IIT Kanpur, I wish to gain master’s degree from this prestigious institution now because I see it as the only place from where I can fulfill my dream to be proficient in the particular specialization for the electronics industry. It offers courses like Control and Automation, Microelectronics and VLSI, RF and Microwave and Communications & Networks which are highly interesting and are helpful in achieving a good career path. I hold preliminary knowledge relating to these courses like Electronics devices and circuits, Analog electronics, digital signal processing, Microwave, control system etc. and wish to convert this to expert knowledge and this is only possible through IIT Kanpur.
I have done various projects and have taken part in various Techfest’s conducted in our college and in other colleges. This real-time experience helped me in understanding the importance of sequencing and optimizing a task in a better way. During under graduation, I worked on a project named as “Prepaid energy meter”. The concept of the project was that it allowed consumers to first pay the amount and then utilize the electricity. An electricity billing system called PREPAID ENERGY METER WITH TARIFF INDICATOR can facilitate an improved cashflow management in energy utilities and can reduce problems associated with billing customers living in isolated areas and reduced deployment of manpower for taking meter readings.
The research facilities in IIT Kanpur are excellent with well-developed research laboratories. For control and automation, there are Network Control Systems Laboratory, Intelligent Systems Laboratory and Intelligent Informatics and Automation Laboratory. For microelectronics and VLSI there are VLSI-EDA laboratory, NANO lab and semiconductor device fabrication lab. Research and development activities on currently relevant problems while applying advanced technologies are carried out regularly through sponsorship. Students are encouraged to choose R&D projects based on their skills and interest to address the prevailing relevant problems, thus enabling them to not only use some of the sophisticated facilities available here, but also to work on state of art and practically meaningful topics. Sometimes in certain cases students can also qualify themselves to join projects as Research Associates and simultaneously carry out both researches related to their thesis work and also continue their course work. In such cases, candidates also become eligible to get additional remuneration than the MHRD norms for PG scholarships.
Faculties here are highly qualified and they use advanced methods for teaching. Under their supervision and guidance, many projects relating to these courses have been executed efficiently in the country’s and society’s interest and there are still many ongoing projects progressing successfully towards their completion. In Microelectronics and VLSI, one of the current ongoing projects is on Photodiode Arrays for Near Infrared Detection, in which I can utilize my primary knowledge about semiconductors and grow it further and in the fast-growing world of electronics, technology and design, VLSI and microelectronics both are the leading industry. Furthermore, IIT Kanpur offer an excellent campus placement opportunity for M. Tech and from the career point of view, after studying from IIT KANPUR I aspire to gain enough knowledge to make in any of the prominent industries based on my skill set and specialization.
There are many other reasons for which I want to study in IIT Kanpur. In a nutshell, I believe that when we strive to learn something wholeheartedly, then we can cross any obstacle and learn that efficiently and quickly. Therefore, with the best faculty along with a remarkable research infrastructure, IIT Kanpur offers the best platform for me to pursue my research objective.
During B. Tech I found very deep interest in Algorithm. I am very much interested in Theoretical Computer Science. While solving the problems on Algorithms, my desire was to analyze the deeper concepts and gain more knowledge in it. I found lesser focus on these subjects in my graduation curriculum.
Efficiency is very important aspect for any process being carried out in the industry and it is further connected to the speed with which some problem is solved. The industries are heavily investing on solving the problems through optimum utilization of resources. Some of the important parameters to be optimized are running time of a software, size of software, GPS mapping systems, social media connectivity. Efficient algorithms can be used in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data. The use of algorithms is enhanced as huge amounts of data are being created, captured and analyzed by businesses and governments. I want to pursue research work in TCS lab in IIT Madras especially for algorithm and data structure.
IIT Madras is one of the best institutes in India. It has the best resources and faculty members in the field of Computer Science. Dr Meghana Nasre (specialized in graph theory, algorithm), Dr Narayanaswamy (analysis of algorithm, parameterized complexity theory), Dr C. Pandu Rangan (graph theory, randomized and parallel algorithm) are doing research work in the domain of my research interest. Pursuing MS from CSE department of IIT Madras will be a great opportunity for me.
The got the inspiration for pursuing career in the technical field during 10th standard while studying the computer-based subjects such as basics of Object-Oriented Programming. Every time code written by me would compile and run successfully, I felt at the top of the world. That led me to pursue career in computer science later.
Studying in India’s Top Premiere Institutes has always been a dream of mine. When I use products and applications like Google’s suite or Facebook and come across some new features, I get a feeling of awe and the creativity amaze me beyond words. I also get sense of pride in getting associated with this profession. I feel inspired by those minds behind this creativity. It is this feeling, which drives me to not give up even while working on the toughest of problems. My love for programming and desire to learn deeply about the working of various applications and technologies, has motivated me to apply for a Master’s Programme in Computer Science.
I did my B. Tech in Information Technology from B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology. The focus of graduation was on core subjects of Computer Science like Data Structures, Operating System, Database Management and Computer Networks. Along with my academic studies, I have actively participated in extracurricular activities like debates, and organizing college fests. I have completed NPTEL courses on cloud computing, C++ and various MOOCs on Python, Java, JavaScript along with hands-on learning via various academic projects:
Library Management System: A web application using Java Spring Boot, and Microservice architectural pattern, deployed on AWS EC2, using MySQL as a Database.
Online Bookstore: A Progressive Web App, inspired by the likes of Shopping apps from Amazon or Flipkart using VueJS, NodeJS and MYSQL.
I have found similar research work being conducted by many faculty members in IIT Madras which further motivates me to pursue research in this direction.
Even after having acquired a basic foundation in the field of computer science through well designed curriculum during undergraduate program, I still have many unanswered questions and an even bigger appetite to fill via post-graduate studies through which I wish to enhance my understanding in the field of Computer Science and apply the knowledge to further develop my skills for a lucrative career in Software Engineering.
The MTech program in Computer Science offered by the IIT Madras will undoubtedly provide me with the right knowledge, skills, and experiences to pursue my dream and utilize the opportunities to the fullest extent. The practical orientation of in-depth coursework in IIT Madras will enable me to acquire a clear understanding of the subjects and develop the skills to apply them in the form of open-source contributions or in the field of applied research. I have gone through the profile and research work of many faculty members of IIT Madras and found the correlation between their research work and my domain of interest. I am confident that my exposure to such initiatives would quite augment my knowledge base and help me lead purposeful professional career.
As a Chemical Engineer I have always been interested to solve problems related to energy. I always realised the importance of energy especially chemical energy in the form of fossil fuels for the socio-economic development of human being. I did my final semester research project on thermal energy storage systems titled: “Development of CFD model for Phase Change Material (PCM) based energy storage in a Vertical Triplex Tube heat exchanger”. PCMs store energy in form of latent heat at temperatures when phase change occurs like liquid to solid (commonly used) or liquid to gas.
Development of thermal energy storage systems is important as sometimes there is mismatch in timings of supply and demand of energy, therefore we need something like thermal battery which can act as thermal storage devices for heat and give it back when required. In order to gain more knowledge about up-scaling and complex modelling of such systems, I believe to enhance my skills and knowledge.
I will consider myself fortunate if I get a chance to work under Dr. Himanshu Goyal, as his some of his areas of research including multi-scale modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are some of the skill sets that I wish to attain. During my B. Tech I voluntarily did many projects, some under my professors and some with friends, where I have learned a lot about teamwork, leadership aspects and time and resource management. Therefore, I wish to join the MS (by research) program at Chemical Engineering department of IIT Madras.
As a chemical engineer, I was always curious to explore new domains in the field of chemical engineering. New domains of learning such as Artificial learning, data science, machine learning and deep learning are revolutionizing every field of knowledge and chemical engineering can’t be exception. While reading the article on process control journal, I came to know that machine learning, artificial intelligence, data analytics and deep learning is widely used in the field of process control. I would like to like to explore this field in deep. I believe that knowledge acquired in these domains will be very helpful for me to implement the concept in real world.
Presently I am pursuing my graduation in the field of chemical engineering from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar technological university lonere, Maharashtra. My graduation in chemical engineering has presented a whole new world of knowledge and immense opportunities for me as I got insight into the various core subjects such as heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics and process control and dynamics. During final year of B. Tech, I worked on the project “Recovery of Acetic acid from aqueous solution by physical Method”.
I developed interest in topic related to data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and deep learning. After going the profile of Prof. Hariprasad kodmana and control and analytics of process systems lab webpage, I am very curious to work and explore new areas in the field of chemical engineering at IIT Delhi.
I wish to apply for MS (R) at IIT Delhi. In the field of chemical engineering this institute offers wide spectrum of opportunities in research areas. IIT Delhi is one of the prestigious institutes of higher learning and institute of national importance. Pursing MS from such institute will certainly provide me opportunities to lead purposeful career in my field.
Disaster management is very important field of study having direct correlation with the life of human being. Needless to mention that despite of being so important field of learning, very little effort has been done academically to pursue research in this domain. It is still not a subject in curriculum of under graduation of universities. I wish to pursue higher education in the field of Disaster Management and apply the knowledge and skills obtained to contribute to the safety of mankind. There is not a single country in this world that can be considered free from various types of disasters. The vulnerability of the people in an underdeveloped country like India is even more. This can be attributed to various factors; one of them is the lack of extensive research and awareness. Even when the under developed countries are realizing the need to take steps to mitigate the effects of disasters, the hurdle lies in lack of expertise available. The motivation for pursuing a field of research and study in the field of Disaster Management has always been my inclination to contribute meaningfully in the field of technology while learning the methods that will be helpful in reducing the vulnerability of the people to such disasters, not only in my own country but in other underdeveloped countries as well.
Right from my childhood, I was a compassionate person; always ready to help people in any possible way. I also used to take initiative in management of various activities, if not by direct involvement, then by supporting the organizers. During any disaster, it is essential that the people affected are treated with compassion and their needs are taken care of. However, I was not aware about the field of disaster management until living in Kolkata, has made me experience cyclones Aayla, Fani and Amphan; the recent one being Yaas. I have seen the dreadful situation the common people had to go through for their survival while the government officials were helpless during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, due to lack of infrastructure and expertise in disaster management.
While working as an individual social worker, the inadequate precautionary safety measures and planning hit me hard. People during such testing times are deprived of basic necessities of human life, shelter and food which made me see the large loophole in the system in the context of disaster management. If I get opportunity to pursue MS from prestigious IIT Guwahati, I will certainly pursue my domain of interest (CYCLONES AND TSUNAMI) and purposefully utilize the research work in different areas.
I have done B. Tech in Biomedical Engineering from Netaji Subhash Engineering College, and I have the first-hand knowledge of Hospital training from AMRI HOSPITALS, DHAKURIA, WEST BENGAL where I have seen professionals handle emergency situations like “CODE BLUE” (stands for heart attack). Having inculcated a deep interest in the field of disaster management, I browsed through a few research papers. ‘A Review of Numerical Modelling of Cyclones and Tsunamis in the Arabian Sea by Royal Haskoning DHV’ by Dr. Zaman Sarkar helped me understand how tidal hydrodynamic and wave models can be used to simulate the impacts of cyclones and tsunamis on coastal developments and facilities, thereby taking proper precautionary measures. My knowledge of programming interface like MATLAB can help me simulate similar models in future, with proper guidance from such a prestigious institute as that of IIT Guwahati.
IIT Guwahati is trying to leap forward by embracing the rising demands of newer and interdisciplinary areas of research and technology development in disaster management and research by incorporating industry participating in offering courses with multi-disciplinary focus.
IIT Guwahati is the only institute in India where I will be offered advanced higher education in the specialization of disaster management. Studying at IIT Guwahati will provide me a unique experience where I will be able to do justice with the field of my interest and conduct quality research. I'm hoping to make the best use of resources and the institute's facilities.
I come from the family of farmers & I have spent larger span of my childhood in village. I used to spend my summer vacations in village with my grandparents. I observed that due to lack of knowledge and awareness about technology and training to use these technological tools, the development in rural areas is at a very slow rate. I believe that the major problems of the village are poor water management, malnutrition, health issues & waste management. These can be solved by effective use of technology and awareness. As an engineer, I always look for the solutions to these problems through technology. Skill enhancement and vocational training is very important for people of rural India. Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA) is doing exactly the same thing. I am much interested to pursue the master program from CTARA due to the focus of this program on use of technology for amelioration of problems of rural poor.
After talking to various people of village and reading many articles, I observed that major problem that people of rural areas are facing nowadays is shortage of water. Decrease in level of water in villages especially during summer is hindering their agriculture activities and also making their lives difficult. And the major cause of this depression in water level is poor water management. In 2015, a report by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation stated that though India receives an average annual rainfall of 1170 mm, poor storage infrastructure allows it to store only 6% of rainwater, compared to 250% stored by developed nations. Because of this, villages in India are facing acute shortage of water for household and agricultural activities especially in cropping season. I believe that by building proper infrastructure for water management and effective utilizing water harvesting techniques we can definitely help to overcome this problem to a large extent.
I have done a project related to this in which I designed a rain water harvesting system for my village house in which all the water that falls on the house eventually gets accumulated in the underwater tank which has capacity of around 6000 litres through various pipelines after filtration which can then be used for crop irrigation, laundry and gardening. I believe that with proper guidance of the expert mentors of CTARA and with my own determination we can use many more technologies for development and better life of rural India.
When I was going through the CTARA department, I came across various projects that has been done by this departments in field of Energy Sources and Services, Agriculture and Food Processing and water resources. I found these projects quite relevant and interesting and matching my domain of interest. This encourages me to apply for this department. The best thing that motivated me to join CTARA is the programs like RISE which gives students an opportunity to stay in rural household to get a glimpse of hardships as well as delights of rural life which is very exciting.
The M. Tech program in Technology and Development offered by Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA) is great initiative by IIT Bombay to help and elevate the lifestyle of rural people of our society using technology. I want to do research, development and solve problems of rural India under the guidance of mentors of IIT Bombay. I shall consider myself fortunate if my candidature is considered for admission in CTARA of IIT Bombay.
During my childhood, I used to make a paper plane and design the wings for longer flying span. I used to wonder about the parameters impacting the range and span of fly. I realised that my paper plane was controlled by wind drag and primarily by the force that was applied with my hand during launch. In a nutshell, I found that it was unstable and uncontrolled flight. Therefore, I came to know that it was not only the design part but also the control system that the aeroplane needs when it is flying in the air. It can only be achieved through designing a good methodology and tools that will help to improve the dynamical response of the aerospace system by development of the algorithm for navigation and guidance control system.
My name is Tenzing Thiley Bhutia, and I will complete my B. Tech this year in Aerospace Engineering. NPTEL was the first platform that introduces me to the course like “Introduction to Airplane Performance”, “Stability and Control” and “Airplane Design” from which I got interested in dynamics and control. If we study the evolutionary journey of aviation sector, we find that the control system plays a very important role in flying the aeroplane along with a highly efficient design. For the combat it was good manoeuvre and for the missile it was good guidance with the efficient long-range target.
As an aerospace engineer, control system is very important as the stability is a concern. During my intern in sky rider institute, we build Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) that was biplane and monoplane. Through the design, I came to know that biplane is more stable than the monoplane. Also, during the online course in Aircraft Stability and Control conducted by NPTEL, I come to know that design is an important initial part that will encounter the disturbance created by the gusting wind. Therefore, I would like to work on both the design and control part to resolve modern operating problem in the control system.
IIT Bombay has wonderful research infrastructure in aerospace department. Faculty in the Aerospace department have advanced research experience, advanced equipment is installed for research and development in modern labs. Also, the focus is on modelling and simulation of parafoil systems, Flight dynamics and nonlinear control for high angle of attack flight. ISRO, DRDO, HAL, BARC, ADA and some private industry which are funding the IIT Bombay research program. IIT Bombay is also engaging in the research area with a foreign university.
Therefore, studying at IIT Bombay will help me to enhance my skill and also it will open many opportunities for me to work in a research and academic institutes once I graduate from IIT Bombay.
I learnt basics of machine learning while in college through subject “Machine learning and application” and also through NPTEL. I also did internship on “Real time IoT application and AI “. The topic of project was” IoT and AI based Smart pilow”, where I developed a pillow that was compatible with smart home devices and keep track of your sleep, help you in improving the quality of sleep and also can be used for entertainment purpose.
My project title was “IoT based vehicle accident prevention system”. This project was mainly based on integration of IoT and AI, where the system could automatically keep track of vehicles on the road, speed of vehicle, distance travelled and distance of vehicle nearby your vehicle which can collide. This system can automatically change gears of vehicle to avoid accident.
I saw the research projects going on in IIT madras and the research work of Prof. Sutanu Chakraborti of CSE department of IIT Madras is very interesting. The research in “Show me your friends, I will tell you who you are: Recommending products based on hidden evidence” is of great relevance. The aim is to make most use of the user provided feedback with help of hidden evidence in the case base. I believe pursuing MS in CSE department of IIT Madras will provide me opportunity to learn these latest technologies and do purposeful research.
I was always attracted & fascinated towards new electronic, computer gadgets and equipment and used to tinker with them. This exploratory activity helped me to know details and later I came to know this as project or problem-based learning. I always tried to open things and wanted to see inside the cover. It was my journey of inquisitiveness, curiosity and deep penchant for science and especially physics and mathematics. No surprise that I took Electrical and Electronics Engineering for my graduation. I learned my new concepts of engineering and started to implement these in the innovative ways. I have never felt satiated with bookish knowledge and have always explored more to satisfy my quest for learning.
I completed B.Tech specializing in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from KIIT University in 2016. My undergraduate program was an exceptionally enriched experience. I was exposed to various modules with applications like Control Systems, Power Electronics, Digital circuits, Power system, Electrical machines, Computer Networks etc. During the 7th semester of graduation, I got training opportunities at SITI Networks Ltd as a Network Trainee. During my training and learning period, I strengthened my core skills significantly.
After graduation, I got placed at SITI Networks Ltd as a Network Engineer. It has been a very productive & learning phase for me. I completed a CCNA fast track course given that I have worked with established professionals in the industry. I decided to pursue higher education to further satisfy my urge for knowledge in my favourite domain of interest. My experience in industry has extensively sharpened my proficiency in adopting, directing, and executing projects. I was entrusted with the responsibility to manage the technology and related challenges.
Aligning my past experiences with my professional goals, I wish to pursue the advanced course from your university. This program will significantly elevate my knowledge. My wish to purse PhD stems from the need to research. PhD will enable me to develop a more specialized skill set in the field of my interest. Working in active research areas will help me to stay up to date on the current research domains which will further enable me to discover more ideas and research topics. IIT Kanpur is an Institution that fosters excellence in learning, research, scholarship and innovation, and that helps create global leaders in different fields of endeavor. Hence IIT Kanpur is best place for me to pursue my academic and research interests.
My research interest is in the discipline of Control and Automation. IIT Kanpur has extraordinarily good labs and research infrastructure. Intelligent Data Engineering and Automation (IDEA) Laboratory and Networked Control Systems Laboratory provides better facilities for conducting experiments. On the control systems front, the research interests of the group include applications of control theories such as robust control, linear and non-linear control, intelligent techniques (fuzzy logic and neural networks), adaptive control, etc. On the instrumentation front, the research interests of the group include smart and intelligent sensors, intelligent systems and data mining, machine learning, brain-computer interface, computer vision, computational intelligence, and related applications in various domains. The faculty members have multiple projects funded by government and private agencies, and are working on them with active support from students
Educational & learning I believe are lifelong processes. I therefore wish to pursue a doctoral degree to further pursue career in research and teaching. I am convinced that my PhD in IIT Kanpur will be meaningful and rewarding experience. I look forward to get this great opportunity.
Since my school days, I have always been curious to understand the dynamics of various mechanical parts and since I was good at Maths and physics, I opted for Automobile Engineering. This is applied branch of engineering with competitive market for the automobile products. Changes in technology are very fast and obvious. It offers opportunities for ever learning. I strongly believe that during graduation, I have only done basics without much emphasis on specialisation of particular domain. Masters from reputed IIT Delhi will provide me great opportunity to learn.
As an engineer I always look for the solutions to the problem through technology. We are aware that pollution levels are increasing rapidly across country, it is very important that we take steps to guard ourselves and our future generations from environmental degeneration. Vehicle fuel consumption and emission have always been a concern. Rising prices of fuel is another cause of concern for country like India. The solution to this problem is the alternative to combustion vehicles. Opting for electric transportation will not only save fuel and the environment but also money.
I have also done a project related to this in which I have designed a 3-wheeler electric vehicle which can produce 10KW power with a range of 100km. I have also enhanced my skills in various software like AutoCAD, CREO PARAMETRIC etc. I believe that with proper guidance of expert mentors of Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) and my own determination, I can do really good in this.
When I was going through the CART department, I came across various subjects that CART is working on that is Electric Vehicle (EV), Energy Storage and Monitoring, Automotive Health Monitoring and Calibration and Diagnostics. I found these subjects quite relevant and interesting and matching my domain of interest. This encourages me to apply for this department.
The MS program offered in Automotive Research and Tribology is great initiative by IIT Delhi to promote interdisciplinary research in Electric Vehicle (EV) and related areas. I want to do research, development and solve problems in the field of Electric Vehicle (EV), Energy Storage and Monitoring, Automotive Health Monitoring Calibration and Diagnostics and Tribology under the guidance of expert mentors of IIT Delhi. I shall consider myself fortunate if my candidature is considered for admission in CART of IIT Delhi.
I have always dreamt of having a career path which not only fascinate me but also provide long term job satisfaction. Such career can only be in the domain of interest. One of the greatest fantasies of humans is, to be able to fly if not with wings, then with something more powerful than wings. Since childhood, I used to get enthralled by seeing the flying objects. I realised later that there is a domain of specialisation known as Aerospace Engineering.
I had started developing keen interest in Aerospace engineering since I attended a presentation on ‘Fly by Wire’. Since then, I have been motivated to join the field of Aerospace Engineering. I have since then followed prominent institutes of India like ISRO, HAL, NAL which are contributing to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission through examples like TEJAS which is lightest and smallest combat aircraft, ASTRA which has missile technology similar to that of RAFALE DRDO RUSTOM which is an unmanned air vehicle. I aspire to be able to contribute to my country in such awe-inspiring institutes.
Secondly, I also have interest in the specialisation of Dynamics and Control, which is related to control systems, to ensure desirable control response from systems for guidance and stability of aircraft. I had started thinking about Research as a step in my career when I attended an NPTEL course on ‘Sensors and Actuators’ by Prof. Hardik Pandya, IISc Bangalore. Professor introduced in the course various techniques used to fabricate sensor in clean room, software such as COMSOL Physics to design sensors applying multiple physics in simulation. My B. Tech Project ‘IOT application in Agriculture using Zigbee’ added to my interest in research.
Aerospace Engineering department of prestigious IIT Bombay is the best learning platform and I am sure would provide me the best ecosystem to pursue my Research interests and grow. I was amazed to find out one of the area of specializations of Prof. Ashok Joshi ‘Air to Air missile’ is the technology in the latest TEJAS. IIT Bombay is one of the few eminent institutes which have had collaboration with ISRO. A satellite ‘PRATHAM’ made in 2016 for major application of GPS correction by research scholars in an educational institute shows how big the platform for research IIT Bombay is. I aspire to contribute to the work of ‘ADVITIY’ or any other Student Satellite Program in future.
I think pursuing MS in Aerospace Engineering would give me the opportunity to develop a career which would satisfy me, fascinate me and motivate me to innovate in field of Aerospace Engineering.
I have done graduation in Electronics and Communication engineering due to my interest in electronic gadgets since childhood. I studied many subjects during graduation but got inclined towards VLSI, Microelectronics, Signal Processing & Control & Automation. I have done few minor projects and a final year project in the related domains. I have done extensive theoretical study of these subjects along with hours of effort in the labs. I still believe that I have only rudimentary knowledge of these subjects. Joining IIT Kanpur for master’s program (MS) will be like dream come true for me to explore further in this field.
One of my minor projects required PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to control the speed of DC motor using assembly language, in this project I was able to analyse the use of signals to control DC motor and the use of Discrete cosine transform (DCT) to watermark an image (both visible and invisible watermark). I was able to realise the spectrum of application of signal processing. Due to my inclination for these areas, I am interested to work in intelligent systems Lab.
I have also used Xilinx, which is a tool used in VLSI-EDA lab, to implement simple logical operations in 8-bit processor in VHDL. I also have interest in MOSFET modelling research which is also currently being pursued in VLSI-EDA lab. Hence, I feel that IIT Kanpur with its state-of-the-art facilities and great professors guide me to pursue research in ongoing labs and let me contribute to the same.
My final year project is “Design of Circularly Polarized Reconfigurable Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Applications” in which I have attempted to increase the bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna by using frequency reconfigurability which also serves the application of multi-band operation and at the same time using circular polarisation to minimise polarisation loss factor (PLF). I have also published a research paper stating my findings of the same. The software used to simulate was Ansys HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) and the proposed antenna operates in 3.25-3.53 GHz and 6.9-7.61 GHz.
Since I have worked on Xilinx, I would like to pursue research in digital VLSI domain and utilise my knowledge to design integrated circuits. Also, the designed system can be utilised to process the signals in required fashion which, if required, can then be utilised to transmit and receive information using antennas. Hope I get an opportunity to pursue MS from prestigious IIT Kanpur.
I have completed my integrated B.E. with MBA (Dual Degree Course) in Chemical Engineering from Dr. S.S.B. University institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. I studied various subjects like Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Nanotechnology, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Process control and Dynamics etc as part of course curriculum. Though I had academic interest in all the subjects but my special research interest evolved for Nanotechnology which I found quite interesting and promising field for research. To make purposeful contribution in the field of research especially in latest domains such as nanotechnology, in depth knowledge of that field is needed. Since all the subjects were designed in such a way to provide overall idea of relevant fields and are supposed to be the foundational pillars of Chemical Engineering, however I believe my knowledge of these subjects is too basic and may require further specialisation in order to work in the field of nanotechnology.
Apart from the Nanotechnology course subject, I got the opportunity to study the Nanoparticles and their impact on the performance of heat exchangers for which I reviewed several research papers. I developed keen interest in the field of nanoparticles while reviewing the relevant research papers. Understanding nanoparticles and impact of shapes and sizes of various nanoparticles and nanofluids on the performance and effectiveness of various equipments such as heat exchangers is quite interesting domain for research. Recently I came across an article regarding nanobiomaterials for biosensing which intrigued me, because I have always wanted to work in the field where nanomaterials can be explored to improve the health system in numerous possible ways.
IIT Delhi is the most prestigious research institute in India and has the best resources and faculties in the field of Chemical Engineering. To satiate my urge for learning and research, I believe MS course will be best for me. MS course will facilitate me to dive deeper in this specific domain. Associate Prof. Shalini Gupta’s work in the field of Nanoengineered materials and biosensing technologies with the research areas of Nanotheranostics of infectious diseases perfectly matches with my interest and passion.
Bloodstream bacterial infections are a serious threat to global public health and economy. Nanotheranostics is emerging as a novel strategy combining solutions for rapid diagnosis and treatment. “If the farmer is poor then so is whole country” Polish Proverb. I saw this statement on the website of Centre of Rural Technology IIT Guwahati & I fully agree with proverbial statement which is so relevant and applicable for India which largely lives in the villages. Indian economic growth is largely dependent on the overall growth of all the sectors of economy including farm sector. India still lives in villages after more than 70 years of independence. More than 60% of our population is directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture. The growth of agriculture is directly related to quality of life of people living in rural areas. The unfortunate part is that growth of agriculture in India has always been sluggish due to many reasons and lack of technological penetration in agriculture is one of the reasons.
I want to utilize my professional knowledge of Mechanical engineering in development of rural economy and quality of life of people. I believe that lack of mechanization of Indian agriculture is one of the bottlenecks in the development of rural economy. Proper utilization of funds available with Panchayati Raj bodies for mechanization of rural economy to make people Atmanirbhar or self-reliant is very important. India being developing nation faces the problem of resource constraints which can be resolved through proper utilization of such resources.
M.Tech in rural technology from IIT Guwahati is not just a degree it’s a dream for me. I would like to join M. Tech program because I’m passionate about the research work and teaching. I’m looking to pursue a career in academia, because this career will allow me to continue both research and teaching simultaneously and for this M. Tech is an essential qualification. M.Tech course will enhance my analytical thinking and research skill. These are some of the reasons for which I want to pursue M.Tech.
My area of interest is Design, Modelling and Analysis of the system working on renewable energy sources, e.g.- Solar thermal contaminated water treatment setup. With the increase in manpower and machine, the need of energy is increasing exponentially. The depletion of fossil fuels has led to discovery and use of different renewable energy sources as a part of sustainable development. Utilization of renewable energy sources like solar energy not only eliminate the unclean and unsafe consequences of conventional energy sources but also it plays a crucial role in the socioeconomic development of many countries and industrial area. I have seen good quality research work being done in IIT Guwahati.
I want to join the prestigious IIT GUWAHATI the exposure of which will definitely help me to achieve my dream in research and academic career. I shall consider myself fortunate if my candidature is considered for admission at IIT GUWAHATI.
Engineering is all about the optimum use of resources. The system, process & techniques need to be made more effective and optimum. The future economy is going to be knowledge & data-driven. The statement "data is the new oil to be refined to extract unprecedented value" (Brown et al., 2011) assumes great relevance in the current data-driven world. Data is the driving force behind the majority of emerging businesses nowadays. Business Analytics provides novel solutions/methodologies in solving real-world problems using the relevant data. I strongly believe that the future belongs to those industries which will use the data to their advantage. Hence, I want to pursue a career in data-driven industries.
Industrial Engineering and Operation Research was part of my curriculum in B.Tech. I found this subject has a practical approach and industrial application. I enrolled myself in a course in supply chain management (SCM). During my course in Supply Chain Management (SCM) from Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey, I came to know about the effective ways of transportation (freight), warehouse and Inventory management, logistics network, Lean and Six Sigma, and other methodology, different forecasting method. I also learned about Procurement, strategic sourcing, make vs. buy, supplier selection, etc. I also completed a project on “Medical Device Industry in the USA”. I also completed an online course in project management from Google.
I want to pursue further study in “Closed-Loop Supply Chain”, which is defined as the control, design, and operation of a system to maximize its value and dynamic value recovery throughout the product life cycle. It is an amalgamation of Forward Supply chain (FSC) and Reverse Supply Chain (RFC).
Reverse Supply Chain (RFC) covers the acquisition of the product from the consumer and the disposition activities. The disposition activities include sorting, testing, grading, remanufacturing/ repair as well as remarketing of the recovered product. It generally represents the critical activity for firms, with economic and environmental impacts by pushing the need needs to blend forward and reverse product flows, rather than just "greening" the individual production processes. The reverse part of acquiring the used products incurs acquisition cost and remanufacturing cost, which generally depends on the quality of the returned product.
Generally, the remanufacturers pay higher acquisition prices for good quality returned products and lower acquisition prices for poor quality returned products. Three objectives can be the maximization of profit over a product’s life span, maximization of the number of parts reused, and minimization of landfill waste. In fact, the remanufacturing cost is a decreasing function of the quality of the returned products. If the product that is returned can be refurbished and remanufactured in the corresponding stage of the supply chain, then it can be sold with a newly manufactured product. The inclusion of remanufactured products will reduce the demand of raw materials or the components required from the suppliers.
In a Forward Supply chain (FSC), the customer is typically at the end of the process. However, a CLSC includes the return processes and the manufacturer has the intent of capturing additional value and further integrating all supply chain activities.
This includes:
Product accretion to obtain the products from the end-users.
Reverse logistics to move the products from the point of use to a point of disposition.
Testing, sorting, and disposition to determine the product's condition and the most economically attractive reuse option.
Refurbishing to enable the most economically attractive reuse option direct reuse, repair, remanufacture, recycle, or disposal.
Remarketing to create and exploit markets for refurbished goods and distribute them.
Every product that is being generated, transported, used, and discarded within the supply chain has some degree of impact on the environment, and is a function of the material and energy consumed, and wastes released in its lifecycle. The CLSC concept is, therefore, of key importance in addressing the key environmental concerns of waste and hazardous materials through pollution prevention activities, as well as generating economic value through extending product life and enabling the reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling of products. Alongside CLSC, the term circular economy (CE) has become increasingly prominent. It is defined as restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility and value at all times distinguishing between technical and biological cycles. It is an economy designed so to preserve and enhance natural capital, optimize resource yields, and minimize system risks by managing finite stocks and renewable flows.
CLSCM deals in general with three types of returns (Guide and Van Wassenhove, 2009):
1. Commercial returns
2. End-of-use returns
3. End-of-life returns
Reverse logistics and its natural extension, Closed-Loop Supply Chains (CLSC), are still in their infancy as academic disciplines, especially when compared with the enormous amount of scientific literature focusing on the forward supply chain. The academic community is able to determine the kinds of activities that were generally carried out when dealing with reverse flows (Thierry et al. 1995, Fleischmann et al. 2000, Guide and Van Wassenhove 2001) and has applied or developed a number of quantitative models in order to support decision-making in networks including product returns (Fleischmann et al. 1997, Dekker et al. 2004).
However, the terms ‘reverse logistics’ or ‘closed-loop supply chains’ are like a superset of a wide variety of return flow types that entail different levels of complexity and management importance. The CLSC is becoming a preferred model for more progressive companies because of its potential for value recovery, positive response to environmental sustainability, and growing consumer awareness of environmental issues by incorporating repair, reuse, and remanufacturing as well as recycling the CLSC model reduces waste, and makes efficient and effective use of resources at all stages.
I want to pursue research work focussed on the applications of these processes. The management techniques used in this focus on integrating entire product life cycle activities such as product design, analysis, planning, production, and inventory control to compress product development lead time. Production systems use the techniques of Operation to plan, model, and optimize systems, addressing the issues of the supply chain, logistics, and resource utilization. India being a developing nation, will always need economic growth for which proper utilization of the resources is very important.

Digital marketing also known as online marketing is a new way of marketing. As technology is developing, we are becoming more digitized in every aspect and conventional marketing methods are being replaced by digital one. Technology has changed the way we communicate, spend time and even perform our daily task. One of the examples which can be taken to reflect the importance of digital marketing is food delivery business at the customer doorsteps. The food delivery app service brands shifted their attention from conventional marketing to digital ads with increased use of smart phones. Millions of consumers are more than happy to have food delivered at the click of button. The customers are available online and they are more comfortable with the online order through their mobiles.
This research proposal is related to promotion and marketing strategies for numerous businesses such as food delivery and generating customer traffic. Most traditional online marketing strategy for food delivery is the mobile app. The food delivery app connects to the current customers to keep them satisfied and retain them and also fosters new business. It takes the advantage of social networking to help a company increase brand exposure and enlarge customer base.
The objectives of the research will be to find out the methods of generating customer traffic. Another important objective of research will be to identify how marketing can improve food delivery service. Understanding the behavior of customer is a great challenge. It involves through analysis of consumer behavior and understanding his psychology. These include the processes that consumers go through in recognizing needs, finding ways to solve these needs, making purchase decisions, interpret information, make plans and implement those plans.
Researchers have done extensive work in this direction. Martin Jacob in his paper has mentioned about “Consumer Perception of Online Food Delivery Apps in Kochi”. A single window for ordering from a wide range of restaurants. Online food delivery mobile applications have become popular over these years. This trend has changed the mindset of customers, gratifying users of different age groups. Similarly, “A STUDY ON CUSTOMER’S ATTITUDE AND PERCEPTION TOWARDS DIGITAL FOOD APP SERVICES” by Dr. NEHA PARASHAR is also good research done in this direction.
